'30s or earlier.

'40s or '50s.

What kind of seats would you replace most cars with?

I like the plain fabric.

Something soft and pliable like suede.
I'm a leather fan.

Probably leather so I can heat them.

What's your favorite "easy" task?

Replacing hoses.

The water pump.
An oil change.

Replacing brake pads.

Do you prefer to repair or replace the engine?

I'm a greaser, so I like to build and replace with my own engines.

I don't mind digging through the junkyard to replace an engine.
I always fix engines.

It just depends on the damage.

What's the most annoying thing to fix?

Oil leaks.

Trying to figure out electrical shorts.
Vehicles with hard to reach areas.

Anything with heavy corrosion.

What's your take on changing the oil?

I'm traditional and still change every 3,000 miles.

I'll wait it out and go every 7,500 miles.
I change it out at around 6,000 miles.

I change oil purely by how it looks and feels on my fingertips.

What's your best friend?

A new paint job.

Chrome.
Undercarriage lights.

Keeping the repairs clean.

When you repair a car, do you try to supe it up?

If I can and it's not costly.

I want my cars to do things you didn't think a car could do.
Not really.

I try to keep the car the same as when I got it, but in better condition.

Do you buy new or used?

Always used. I can make any repairs I need.

I prefer a couple years old, but if I find the right ride I'll go new.
I like cars as old as I can find them.

I only deal with classics from the '70s.

Why is it important to you to rotate your tires?

I live in a cold climate and uneven balding tires can put me in a ditch.

I don't rotate, I always slap on new tires.
I travel long distances and it's important to maintain good gas mileage.

That's what my dad taught me.

Your AC isn't working. What do you check first?

I like to make sure I'm getting good flow.

The coolant.
The lines for a leak.

Airflow obstructions.

Someone tells you that they hear a scraping sound when they hit the brakes. What do you do?

Wince.

Sigh.
Try to pretend like it's not a big deal.

Give it to them straight.

Which liquid color do you just not want to see under your car?

Brown or black.

Pastel blue.
Anything fluorescent.

Red.

How do you decide which old car to fix?

A specific year, make, and model.

As long as the bones are there I'm good.
I usually have people bring me cars they need repaired.

It's just a gut thing for me.

When you're repairing an old car, do you always replace all the belts?

Only if they look like they need replacing.

Yep, always.
Depends on how much money I have.

I probably would, just in case.

What's the most important cosmetic repair you'd do?

Paint job.

Polishing the chrome.
Putting on new tires even though the old were fine.

Buffing the leather seats.

Do you use your own tools?

Just for simple fixes like changing the oil.

Always. I have a full shop.
I rent a space at a shop.

No, but my buddy has a place I can work. It's more of a social thing.

What do you consider the most important maintence repair on your car?

Tires.

Oil.
Brake pads.

Air filter.

Why shouldn't you drive on fumes?

With old cars it doesn't really matter.

Bad gas mileage.
It can lead to a costly repair with newer cars.

I didn't know it was an issue.

What is the first question you ask yourself when repairing an old car?

Does it run safely?

What needs to be repaired to run well?
Where are the major rust areas?

What shape are the tires and brakes?

Which classic engine do you wish you could put in all of your cars?

What mod do you add to all your classic car repairs?

Wider tires.

New bushings.
Disc brakes.

New springs and shocks.

Which is your favorite mod that might be illegal?

Loud exhaust.

Underbody lights that flash and flicker.
Low rider.

Nitrous.

What do you always upgrade in your classic car?

I always add seat belts.

I install satellite radio.
I need the AC.

Power steering is essential.

Which make do you prefer to work on?

Jeep.

How do you make your old car feel new?

I put in new lights.

I rehaul the cockpit.
I remove the old radio and add satellite and GPS

Replace all the interior seating.

What is an unnecessary upgrade you would like to add?

A GoPro to the dash.

LED lighting.
Radar detector.

Heated seats.

What is your favorite custom paint design or style?

I love the matte finish.

Flames are my thing.
Two-tone.

I still prefer old school single color.
