Regarded as one of the best off-roaders ever produced by Jeep, the Wrangler's compact nature means it can often go where bigger off-roaders can’t. Those tucked away, tight trails – this is where the Wrangler will excel. It offers excellent tires, a six-speed gearbox with a 4:1 transfer case and an inline six engine capable of producing all the torque you will ever need.

Although its design (effectively brick shaped) only allowed a top speed of 65mph, the FC-150 certainly is something to behold. Built on the same wheelbase as the CJ-5, the FC-150 looked far bigger thanks to the massive cab put on top of it. The FC-150 handled well, gave an excellent view of surroundings and was more than capable off-road.

Released between 1976 and 1986, Jeep’s CJ-7 was one of the most popular off-roaders at the time. It had a large, 93.5-inch wheelbase which coupled with a three-speed gearbox meant the Jeep went places other 4x4’s had trouble getting to. The top of the range CJ-7 was powered by a 304 cubic inch V8.

The Jeep brand has a rich history, with the first models designed for the military in World War II. The Grand Cherokee, sold by Jeep all over the world, debuted in 1992. Now in its fourth generation, the Grand Cherokee remains in demand. In fact, around 277,000 of this model were sold in 2015.

A great off-roader thanks to its super 4-wheel drive system, the Liberty is something that wants to be out on the trails. It is a Jeep after all. And it’s a looker to boot. The Liberty was produced between 2002 and 2012 with well over 1 million sold in the United States.

Produced between 1956 and 1965, the Forward Control is essentially a truck offering from Jeep. It was designed by Brooks Stevens, who interestingly was responsible for the 1949 Harley Davidson Hydra-Glide. He went on to design the Jeep Wagoneer.

The first luxury 4x4 sold by Jeep, Wagoneers were produced for a period of 28 years, from 1963 to 1991. Even though this was a massive vehicle, the 4x4 performed admirably off-road and even won the Sno*Drift Rally of 1974.

A compact crossover SUV, Jeep released the Compass in 2006. Now in its second generation, which received a five-star EUROCap safety rating, the Compass has six engine options (four petrol and two diesel). Close to 3 million units of this model have been sold in the United States and Canada since 2006.

Made for U.S. forces during the Second World War, the CJ8 was used in many roles including as a fast reconnaissance vehicle as well as an ambulance. Certainly, this is one of the first off-road vehicles ever made.

Willys were responsible for the original Jeep vehicles used by the U.S. military during World War II. The Overland Jeepster was their attempt to enter the commercial vehicle market after the war with the Jeepster produced from 1948 to 1950. Over 20,000 were built.

The Trailhawk was something very different from Jeep. Released in 2007, the Trailhawk was still an open-air vehicle based on the Wrangler platform but with very different looks, especially when the removable glass panels in the rear were taken off. It is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine which produces 215 brake horsepower.

The Liberty Sport was one of three trim packages available for the Jeep Liberty. This was essentially the "base" model and included 2.4-liter Power-Tech engine coupled to a five-speed transmission as well as large 16" wheels, CD player, radio and 8 speakers, bucket seats for the driver and passenger and keyless entry. It was available between 2004 and 2007.

This Jeep concept vehicle was unveiled in 2005 at the North American International Auto Show. The basic premise with the Hurricane was a lightweight recreation vehicle seating two. The one-piece body was constructed out of carbon fiber, while it also featured a unique four-wheel steering system from Chrysler. The Hurricane, which has never been put into production, is powered by two 5.7-liter, 8-cylinder HEMI engines.

Produced between 1961 and 1975, the FJ Fleetvan came in two different versions, the FJ-3 and the FJ-3A which was a little longer. Essentially a delivery van, the FJ was used by the U.S. Postal Service, among others.

This version of the Commander has a 3,0-liter turbodiesel engine which produces 214 brake horsepower. Performance is not as impressive as the V8 model but you will save money at the gas station as the CRd Limited is not as thirsty as the V8. Essentially, this is a very decent seven-seater off-roader.

With its rugged styling, decent gas mileage figures and a peppy 285-hp, 3.6-liter V6 engine, the Unlimited Sahara is an impressive off-roader. It seats five people with ease and offers both a two- and four-door option.

Although it maintains that typical Jeep front lights and grill, the new 2017 Renegade certainly has a very different look. This is probably because, believe it or not, it is based on the Fiat 500. It is also the first Jeep to be built in Italy. Currently, only one engine option is available, a 1.4-liter MultiAir II Turbo that produces 138 brake horsepower

Based on the Wagoneer platform, the Super Wagoneer was introduced by Jeep in 1966. It included a higher performing version of the AMC V8 engine which now produced 270 brake horsepower. It also included some incredible features for the time including a push-button radio, a tilt steering wheel, power steering, air conditioning and power brakes.

Based on the CJ series, the DJ was a two -wheel drive variant. It was produced from 1955 until 1984. During that time, there were four variants, including a rear-wheel drive electric version known as the "Electruck."

Over 335,000 Willys MB's were made for military use during World War II. They not only served with the US Army but with its allies and in every theatre.

The Golden Eagle trim package was available for both the Jeep CJ-5 and CJ-7. It was introduced in 1977 and featured one color option initially, thrush brown. More colors were added from 1978. Golden Eagle Jeeps also included a large eagle decal on the hood, a Levi's soft top cover and large spoked wheels.

This four-door Jeep is an excellent off-roader. The 2017 model is available as either a hardtop or softtop and is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine generating around 285 brake horsepower. The Unlimited Chief offers gas mileage figures of 16 mpg for city driving and 20 mpg out on the highway.

The Pioneer was a trim package for the Cherokee and was available from 1984 to 1990. It included steel wheels, an AM radio as well as alternate cloth trim with a plaid patter. In 1988, the Pioneer Olympic was released for just a year. This added airconditioning.

Successor to the Jeep MB, the Willys MC was produced from 1950-1952.

Based on the Wagoneer platform, the Grand Wagoneer was introduced by Jeep in 1984. By 1987, the 25th anniversary of the Wagoneer design, the Grand Wagoneer came standard with all-weather tires, air conditioning, leather bucket seats, roof racks, fog lamps and many other features. It also included a hood ornament.

The Comanche pickup was marketed by Jeep between 1985 and 1992. It offered two different configurations in terms of its cargo bed, with either six or seven feet lengths available. The Comanche offered four engine options (including diesel) with a 4.0 L gas engine the most powerful available.

The Jeep Honcho was a Gladiator pickup with the Honcho trim package applied to it. This was made available to customers between 1976 and 1983. It included a roll bar, Levi's interior and special decals.

The Commander, a mid-sized SUV, was produced by Jeep between 2006 and 2010. Initially, sales were excellent, with over 140,000 units sold in the first two years. They began to drop and the Commander was replaced by the Durango in 2011. The top-of-the-range Commander was powered by a 5.7 L Hemi V8 which produced 357 brake horsepower.

Jeep took their CJ-7 model, increased the length of the wheelbase and added a pickup-style body to make the CJ-8 model, or as it was affectionately known, the Scrambler. Not only did this give fans an off-roader pickup but the because of the longer wheelbase, the drive was far smoother as well. Around 30,000 Scramblers were built.

The CJ-6 was a variant of the CJ-5 with the addition of an extra 20 inches added to the wheelbase. It was produced from 1955 to 1976 with around 50,000 units manufactured.

Built between 1955 and 1964, the Dispatcher used an L-Head 134 engine with the body of the Jeep CJ-3A. It was available as both a soft and hardtop and often used as a delivery vehicle.

Designed as a combat vehicle, research on the Mighty Mite started in 1946 but it was only in the late 1950s that it went into production. The body was made from aluminum to keep weight down for airlfting while the Mite was powered by an AMC V-4 air-cooled engine. 3,922 Mighty Mites were manufactured with most serving with the US Marines.

The Patriot debuted in 2006, the same year as the Compass. Marketed in the compact crossover SUV segment, the Patriot has moved close to a million units worldwide with more than half of that sold in the United States. Although little has changed in the way of design since 2006, the Patriot did receive a facelift in 2011.

Produced between 1990 and 1994, the Renegade was a trim package available on the Jeep Wrangler. This was in conjunction with American Specialty Cars based in Detroit. Originally, the Renegade was only available in white, red or black with blue and bronze added a few years later.

Not only an exceptional 4x4 off-roading vehicle but easy to drive and with tons of comfort, the Grand Cherokee Overland, an upgrade of the regular model, has large 18-inch wheels as standard. Two engine options are available, either a 2.4 liter producing 184 brake horsepower or a 3.2 liter V6 belting out 271 brake horsepower.

Initially a trim package for the CJ-5 introduced in 1961, the Tuxedo Park included some more chrome add-ons, an Indian ceramic steering wheel and different vinyl trims. The Tuxedo Park became its own model in 1965 and to differentiate it from other models it had chrome bumpers, badges and hubcaps as well as a column shift among other little changes.

Produced between 1962 and 1971, the Jeep Gladiator was available in both a 4-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive option. Suspension options also varied with either a solid front axle or an independent front section.
